Minecraft drops you into a randomly generated world made of blocks that you can dig up, combine and place again however you like. This is the Bedrock Edition, the same version that runs on consoles and Windows, so phone players can join friends on other devices. It suits kids, families and adults who like open-ended building or a relaxed survival challenge.
Day to day you choose your pace. Creative mode hands you unlimited materials for pure building, while Survival asks you to gather resources, craft tools and hold off monsters after dark. Touch controls take some getting used to, but you can also connect a controller. Beyond the base game there is a Marketplace for creator-made worlds and skins, community servers, and an optional Realms Plus subscription for a private server shared with up to 10 friends.
Why we picked it: One upfront price gets you the full game with cross-play and regular free updates, and few games offer this much freedom on a phone.
