Quick verdict
If you already run Plex with your own music, Plexamp is one of the best mobile players for it, with strong playback options and offline downloads. If you don't have a server and a music collection, there is nothing here for you.
Best for People who keep a personal music library on a Plex Media Server and want a polished, music-only player on their phone.

Plexamp review
Plexamp is Plex's music player for people who keep their own music collection on a Plex Media Server. It streams your library to your phone and offers a cleaner, music-focused alternative to the main Plex app. Features include gapless playback, loudness leveling, offline downloads and radio-style mixes built from your own collection. It suits anyone with a large personal library, such as ripped CDs or purchased files, who wants a streaming-service feel without the streaming service.
Why we picked it: It is one of the most polished ways to play a self-hosted music library on mobile, and it is built around albums and artists rather than video.
Watch out for: It does nothing without your own Plex server and music files, and several of the smarter features need a paid Plex Pass.
What we like
- Built around music, so albums and artists come first instead of video
- Gapless playback, loudness leveling and an equalizer for careful listeners
- Offline downloads of playlists and radio-style mixes for travel
- Mixes and radios generated from your own library
- Free to download and try with an existing Plex account
What could be better
- Needs a Plex Media Server and your own music files to do anything
- Some of the smarter features require a paid Plex Pass
- Setup and server upkeep fall on you, unlike a normal streaming service
