SHEIN review
SHEIN is the shopping app for the fast-fashion retailer of the same name. It sells clothing, shoes, beauty products and accessories, and its catalog also covers home goods, pet supplies, electronics, tools and office items. It suits shoppers who care most about low prices and a steady flow of new styles, and who are willing to take a chance on quality.
Day to day, you scroll through new arrivals, trend pages, best sellers and category feeds, then check daily flash sales and first-order discounts. Each product page has customer photos and reviews, which help with sizing. The app takes PayPal, major cards and, in some regions, Afterpay instalments. Live chat is available for order problems. It sends a lot of promotional notifications, so many people end up turning them off.
Why we picked it: It is one of the most widely used shopping apps in the world, with ratings in the high fours across millions of reviews, and the prices and range are hard to match.
Watch out for: Quality and sizing vary from item to item. Free shipping and free returns come with conditions. The company has also faced public criticism over labour practices, environmental impact and copying independent designers.
What we like
- Very low prices across a large catalog
- New items added constantly, with daily flash sales
- Customer photos and reviews help with fit and sizing
- Supports PayPal, major cards and Afterpay where available
- Live chat customer service
What could be better
- Quality and sizing are inconsistent
- Free shipping and returns depend on conditions and region
- Heavy promotional notifications and gamified discounts
- Ongoing public criticism over labour, environmental and design-copying issues
