Microsoft's work-focused AI assistant that drafts, summarizes and builds Office files from your phone
by Microsoft Corporation · listed Nov 3, 2026
Quick verdict
Worth installing if your work runs on Microsoft 365, since it ties AI assistance directly to your files and apps. If you don't use Microsoft's tools, a general-purpose AI assistant will serve you better.

Microsoft Copilot review
Microsoft Copilot is an AI assistant built around work in Microsoft's own apps. It links to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams, so you can ask it to draft an email, summarize a file, brainstorm or pull together a document, deck or spreadsheet without switching tools. It suits people who already live in Microsoft 365 and want one place to start and finish tasks on mobile.
Day to day it works like a chat window that knows about your files. You can upload Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF or image files from your phone and ask questions about them, pick which AI model handles a request, and come back later to find it remembers context. A feature called Cowork lets you hand off multi-step jobs and get finished files or to-dos back, rather than just suggestions. Organizations paying for Microsoft 365 Copilot get deeper context about their own people and work through Work IQ.
Why we picked it: If your documents, mail and meetings are already in Microsoft 365, this ties AI help directly to that work instead of a separate chatbot.
Watch out for: The most useful work features depend on a Microsoft 365 or Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription, and the app name is easy to confuse with Microsoft's consumer Copilot app.
What we like
- Connects to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams in one place
- Can produce finished documents, decks and spreadsheets, not just text replies
- Lets you upload Office files, PDFs and images from your phone for questions and summaries
- Choice of AI models depending on the task
- Remembers context so you can pick up where you left off
What could be better
- Key work features rely on paid Microsoft 365 or Copilot plans
- Far less useful if you don't use Microsoft's apps and storage
- Branding overlaps with the separate consumer Copilot app, which can be confusing
