Udemy review
Udemy is the mobile companion to the Udemy course marketplace, where independent instructors sell video courses on everything from programming and data science to leadership, photography and personal development. The app is for anyone who wants to learn a practical skill at their own pace, whether for a career change, a certification or simple curiosity. You can buy individual courses or use the Personal Plan subscription, which opens up a large curated catalogue along with extras like AI role-play practice scenarios.
Day to day it works like a focused video player. You pick up where you left off, watch lectures in short chunks, and download sections for flights or commutes. Casting to Chromecast and dark mode help with longer sessions. Courses you buy stay in your library, so you can return to them later.
Why we picked it: The catalogue is enormous, and offline downloads make it practical for learning in spare minutes away from a desk.
Watch out for: Course quality varies a lot between instructors, so check reviews and preview lectures before paying. Listed prices also change often with frequent sales.
What we like
- Very wide range of topics, from coding to soft skills
- Offline downloads for learning without a connection
- Purchased courses stay in your library
- Chromecast support and dark mode
- Progress syncs with the website
What could be better
- Quality is uneven because anyone can publish a course
- Subscription and per-course pricing can be confusing
- Some coding courses are awkward to follow on a phone screen
