Adobe Scan review

Adobe Scan uses your phone's camera to capture paper documents and save them as PDFs or JPEGs. It finds page edges, straightens curved or tilted pages, and runs text recognition so you can search and copy words from your scans. It suits students, freelancers and office workers who want receipts, forms, notes and business cards in digital form without a flatbed scanner.

In practice you point the camera at a page and the app captures it, then you crop, reorder or clean it up before saving. High-speed mode handles a stack of pages in one go. A cleanup tool removes shadows, stains and stray fingers, and you can pull selected pages out of a long scan into a new PDF. Scans go to Adobe's cloud, which makes them easy to open in Acrobat on a computer. The Android version also offers AI summaries and an assistant that answers questions about a scan. A Digitize tool for turning handwriting into clean text is in beta.

Why we picked it: Edge detection and text recognition are dependable, and the core scanning features cost nothing.

Watch out for: You need an Adobe account, files sync to Adobe's cloud, and some extras sit behind paid upgrades.
