Quick verdict
Worth installing if you want to watch your credit scores for free and do not mind offers along the way. Treat the scores as a guide rather than the exact number a lender will see.
Best for US users who want free credit score monitoring plus a simple overview of their spending

Intuit Credit Karma review
Intuit Credit Karma is a personal finance app for people in the US who want to keep an eye on their credit without paying for it. You get credit scores from TransUnion and Equifax, alerts when they change, and a summary of linked bank and card accounts with spending sorted into categories. It also pitches personalized credit card, loan and insurance offers, and adds optional extras: Credit Karma Money spend and save accounts (banking through MVB Bank), Credit Spark for building credit history from bills you already pay, and year-round tax prep tools.
Day to day, most people open it to check whether their score moved or to look into an alert. The dashboard is easy to scan, and connecting accounts gives you a basic budget view without much setup. Expect plenty of offer cards along the way, because those recommendations are how the free app pays for itself.
Why we picked it: Checking two bureau scores for free, with change alerts, is useful, and the app handles it in a clear, low-effort way.
Watch out for: The scores are VantageScore models, which may not match the FICO score a lender pulls. A paid Credit Karma Plus tier is also rolling out for identity protection and expert tax help.
What we like
- Free TransUnion and Equifax credit scores with change alerts
- Links bank and card accounts and categorizes spending automatically
- Optional in-app banking with early paycheck access on direct deposit
- Tax tools that let you prep a little at a time, including W-2 photo upload
What could be better
- Lots of product offers, since that is how the free app makes money
- VantageScore figures can differ from the FICO scores many lenders use
- Banking and many features are aimed at US users only
- Some features are moving into the paid Credit Karma Plus tier
Questions about Intuit Credit Karma
Is Intuit Credit Karma free?
Yes, the app is free and the core features, including credit scores and alerts, cost nothing. A paid Credit Karma Plus subscription is gradually rolling out with extras such as identity protection, data removal and expert tax help.
Does checking my score in the app hurt my credit?
No. Viewing your scores in Credit Karma is a soft inquiry and does not affect your credit. Applying for a card or loan through an offer can trigger a hard inquiry from the lender.
Which platforms does it run on?
It is available on iPhone and Android, and the same account also works on the Credit Karma website.
How does Credit Karma make money?
Mostly through the credit card, loan and insurance offers it shows you, which earn it a fee when you sign up. The new Plus subscription adds a paid revenue stream.
Are there alternatives?
Experian's app offers a free FICO score, and many banks and card issuers now show free scores in their own apps. For budgeting alone, a dedicated budgeting app may give you more control.
